Robert N. Thomas, former CLACS Director and Professor Emeritus of Geography, passed away May 8, 2015.  His obituary summarizes the achievements of his long career.  His achievements are many and an underlying theme of them was a commitment to creating opportunities for students.  As a scholar of Latin American and Caribbean Studies, he worked to bring students together with the issues and region.  He initiated a  study abroad program to Cuba.  He worked with undergraduate and graduate students so they could have field experience in the region and discipline.  His efforts to provide the academic, research, and cultural experiences helped foster the interests of future experts and scholars concentrating on the region.  Bob Thomas played an important role in making MSU a World Grant University.  We now honor his legacy by continuing to support students and scholars making a difference in the region.
